Mediatrade implemented a video production studio for Iltalehti in December 2019
Iltalehti IL-TV platform is one of the most viewed video platforms in Finland.
Fast paced live productions and high-quality content production
Iltalehti wanted to invest more in content and bring fast news-type live productions to its offer. They also wanted to add other studio productions, one of the most famous of which is the “Uncensored Päivärinta” production, which was previously implemented as a service. Iltalehti wanted to move this production to its new studio.
Ease of use was a criterion for the studio, which also means that live news production can be carried out on a fast schedule. The resources committed to production were minimised, since the operators also had other tasks.

Studio located in the heart of news production
The editorial department was chosen for the studio’s location, so we were in the heart of news production itself. Since the space was mainly an open office, it was clear that the studio had to adapt to other activities in the editorial department.
Compact and quality equipment
Broadcast equipment
Big and heavy traditional broadcast equipment was out of the question, but we wanted to implement a solution as compact as possible. Broadcastpix’s Mica, which is a compact all-in-one solution that combines video mixing, graphics generator and video clip playback, was chosen as the video mixer.
Cameras
Camera choices were considered between robotic cameras (PTZ) and traditional broadcast cameras, but in the end we chose a solution that combines both compactness and quality. The cameras are Blackmagic Design’s Studio Cameras. They combine the connections of studio cameras, but at the same time have a sensor size (4/3 inch) more characteristic of SLRs, which enables a unique look and quality, which would not have been possible with more traditional solutions.

The studio was baptised for use by making a seven-hour live broadcast of the Independence Day celebrations. The broadcast combined both a studio part and atmosphere directly from the President’s Castle. With LiveU’s LTE technology, live video interviews in the field are reliably transferred to the studio, where they can be easily connected to the rest of the production.
