Mediatrade renovated a modern audiovisual production space for the University of Helsinki for educational use.
Radio studio renewal
Svenska social- och kommunalhögskolan of the University of Helsinki renovated the radio studio used for education, during the winter and spring. The starting point of the renovation was to update the existing radio studio to match modern workflows and add visual radio functionalities to the studio.
Mats Söderman, digital development coordinator of Svenska social- och kommunalhögskolan, is satisfied with the functionality of the new studio.
The collaboration worked well throughout the project. During the project, new possibilities and options came up, to which Mediatrade’s answer was always yes. This is how our project kept developing and improving in a better direction throughout.

Upgrade to digital technology
The studio’s technology was updated to digital technology and at the same time Jutel’s Radioman automation used by the university was updated. The control functions of the automation were integrated into the touch-screen control user interface, which will also enable solo use of the studio without a sound inspector in the future.
The innovative control user interface controls all the equipment needed for studio work, and the camera images are automatically cut to the person speaking in the studio in turn.
Audio control room update
The renovations also updated the studio’s audio control room and added a traditional fader panel on the table. In this way, it is possible to teach the basics of audio monitoring and to move completely to the digital world.
“It has been nice and very flexible cooperating with Mediatrade, and we think we got exactly the kind of studio assembly we set out to get. Ideas for further developments have already come up as we have noticed all the new ways of producing radio these renovations have enabled”, says Mats Söderman.
